True Manufacturer of Laptop

People use laptops of various brands such as Compaq, Lenovo, and Toshiba. However, many people think that the laptop company itself manufactures the laptop they are using. However, it is not true that laptop companies manufacture laptops. The truth is the laptop companies buy laptops from Original Design Manufactures (ODM) and market them under the company name.

Touchscreen Windows Tablet

In real sense, the true manufactures of laptops are Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). There are many such ODMs and OEMs like Asus, Acer, Arima and many more. Few exceptions like Apple and Sony manufacture their own laptops, and that too of nominal quantity.

Touchscreen Windows Tablet

ODMs and OEMs:

ODMs are the real manufacturers of laptop, as they design, cast and assemble the main unit of a laptop. The main units of a notebook computer include the motherboard, display and shell or outside casing. Collectively, the main unit is called the Barebone. Some examples of ODMs are Mitac, Clevo, Compal, and Quanta. Generally, people are unaware of these companies. However, people use their products under the name of a branded computer company.

Generally, the locations of these ODMs are in Asia and have their distribution centers in the United States. ODM centers send their products to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Every ODM sells its laptop to various OEMs.

OEMs are those companies, which assemble the Processor, Memory, Optical Drives, Hard Drives and software programs. OEMs carry out the final assembly process and put the brand label (Brand Name) on the laptop. The company then sells the laptops to dealers or resellers or directly to public. Many companies such as Dell and HP have their OEMs in Asia. In short, laptop-selling companies like Lenovo, Compaq, HP, and Dell function as OEMs.

Quanta is the ODM of Lenovo, who is the maker of the ThinkPad series of laptops. Lenovo acts as an OEM. Earlier, LG was the ODM for IBM. After Lenovo Group took over IBM, they even changed their ODM to Quanta and till date have kept their ODM Quanta as constant. Lenovo did manufacture a very small number of laptops in the past.

Thus, the true manufacturers of laptops are not the laptop producing companies, but the ODMs. Hence, individuals reaping the benefits of using various laptops of different companies need to thank the ODMs, rather than the laptop company for manufacturing laptops. ODMs and OEMs are the backup, whereas laptop companies are just a selling source.

LG Optimus T and Optimus S

After years of hard work and delay, Microsoft has eventually succeeded to step up to the plate and has provided with a completely new Smartphone operating system which is Windows Phone 7. The LG Optimus T, Optimus S, presently being offered by Telus only in Canada and by some other multiple carriers that too only in Europe, is announced to be one of the initial batches of WP7 Smartphones.

Touchscreen Windows Tablet

Looking at LG Optimus T and Optimus S, we find it really amusing with features like a 3.8-inch capacitive touch screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a HD capable 5 megapixels camera into an elegant and a solid constructed phone. Something which most of the people appreciate is that it seems quite capable of holding onto weak signal; more over it contains hardware buttons on its front which are easier to use.

Touchscreen Windows Tablet

LG Optimus T and Optimus S till now has released only two models as E900 and 7Q C900. These LG E900 and 7Q C900 run on Windows Phone 7 operating system. LG E900 Optimus T and Optimus S has a 3.8-inch touch screen with a 5 mega-pixel camera, 16 GB internal memory, 512 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0, stereo FM radio, Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, HSUPA and GPS LG E900 Optimus T and Optimus S runs on Windows Phone 7 operating system. The company has not revealed the other information, so far.

When examined from the side it looks like a barely perceptible trapezoid shape, which is mainly due to the top and bottom of the handset which slopes off the front to the back very gently. Along with the protruding, the Windows key is easily identifiable which makes it pretty easy to recognize which end of the phone you're grappling with while it's in your pocket or in the dark.

Now coming towards the thing on which we will pick up on with the Optimus T and Optimus S is its browser rendering which suffers only when the page is zoomed out. When we zoom in the Anti-aliasing kicks are very nice but as soon as we view the page in its full size, details start to generate with jaggy lines. Passing sarcastic remarks regarding its perfection would be rather unfair because the smoothness of the phone speaks for itself.

One of the rather big and main issues is with the Battery. This was one of those areas where we felt almost disappointed and where we were unable to find an appropriate yet effective solution. Expected that the Optimus T and Optimus S 's 1500mAh cell would give us more time away from the cord but, in fact, just like the HD7 and its 1230mAh battery it may lead to disappointment. The battery exhausts itself at somewhere short of two days doesn't matter whatever you're doing. Intensive use does show an advantage over HTC's behemoth, where this battery is capable of withstanding a full day's use and abuse to its maximum. The larger battery is advantageous but less so than it had been initially expected to be.

So choosing Optimus T and Optimus S over other phones could be a good decision if you really want it to use as a second computer, but for those who use phone mostly for important calls or in other words business calls, this is not the phone for you.

More To The Motion CL 900 Than Meets The Eye

Today, the deskbound PC is being trumped by the tablet PC with mobility meeting durability as internet access goes large screen format.

Touchscreen Windows Tablet

As static work environments give way to the more complex demands of "work anywhere, anytime", agility and flexibility is now the key theme to productive working. As new work/lifestyle trends continue to transform business models in the on-demand economy, numerous handheld PCs are entering the market to supply the growing demand for cool look technology combined with no-nonsense performance.

Touchscreen Windows Tablet

A main contender for the must-have tech, Motion Computing have come up with their own touchscreen tablet PC, the Motion CL 900, gearing up to compete with the industry's well-known brand heavy weights. How does it compare to its competition? All the signs look good...

Any talk of a touchscreen PC, inevitably, invites comparison with the current industry top seller, the iPad. Appearance-wise, the Motion CL900 has undoubtedly, the more fuller figure, but its sleek, shiny frame and silky glass screen will definitely attract the vital second glance. Possessing minimal controls means this mobile PC is ultra user-friendly without any confusing widgets. A light mover, weighing in at a few pounds less a netbook, its dimensions are unique amongst handheld computers.

Being unique can be very desirable! So while, standard issue Tablet PCs generally all have small screens there'll be no complaints here with the CL 900. Motion Computing has conferred upon the Motion CL 900 a generous sized 10 inch surface area boasting a stunning HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. These are screen dimensions that go way beyond what one might typically find on other tablets in the marketplace - and that includes the iPad as well! The High Definition quality is identical to HDTV standard, so the CL 900 is ideal for all your favourite HD viewing away from home!

There's definitely more than meets the eye here as beauty goes way below skin deep on the CL 900. However, first time users won't take too long to discover that at the heart of Motion Computing's design genius is its' Atom processor. Intel's latest 'Oak Trail' technology is more than capable of easily operating Windows 7 at a speed of 1.5GHz - while still conserving battery life. This means that with its' extremely small power consumption linked to a 40 watt battery the CL 900 can keep on working for eight whole hours!

An exceptional performance for a tablet PC, guaranteeing an extended optimum experience whenever and wherever it's vitally needed!

Gadget World Review - HP TouchSmart Touch Screen Computers!

About time touch screen laptops and desktop computers are finally flooding the market. As early as the end of October Hewlett-Packard is shipping several desktop and laptop touch screen models, and a few more by the end of the year. All new HP models will have Windows 7.0 operating system.

Touchscreen Windows Tablet

Although HP wasn't first to introduce touch screen computers into the market, as Dell already had a 00 version debuting in spring, TouchSmart series are definitely aimed at average consumers. Toshiba will also have a few touch screen laptops coming out at the beginning of November. Toshiba Satellite models will attempt to attract customers with their newly designed Toshiba Life Space featuring Bulletin Board - for day to day activities, tasks, and projects, and Realtime - interactive and user friendly way to browse files, photos, documents, videos and more.

Touchscreen Windows Tablet

So what is it so special about the upcoming HP TouchSmart computers? Well first of all it's the price. Considering cutting edge technology - think iPhone for a second, about 0 on the market - now picture a screen 10 times bigger, with a lot more apps and features - starting at 9, HP TouchSmart series computer is a steal! Wireless, powerful, and incredibly elegant with at least 20" (up to 25" of full 1080p) of touchable surface is ready to take a designated spot in the family room or even your kitchen.

Laptops are also available and will feature a touch screen that can be rotated 180 degrees and used as a tablet. Users can draw and write by hand and/or use an electronic pen to satisfy their creative needs. It will also feature a webcam and "photo booth" interactive touch screen app. Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, Recipe Box and many other touch enabled apps are also included in both laptops and desktop pc's.

Windows 7.0 OS has a few benefits of its own. Designed particularly for fast-growing touch technology, useless background activities are eliminated for faster loading and turn-off times, as well as greatly improved and simplified operating system to sufficiently increase battery life. Finally Microsoft is headed in the right direction.

HP has a good selection of possible upgrades to the desired system. Up to 2.93Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 8GB of RAM, 1TB of space, 1GB NVidia GT230M video card, Gigabit LAN, 25.5" 16:9 Widescreen touchscreen surface, TV Tuner and a wide range of applications will be available within a few months. Screen can also be used with gaming consoles (Wii, PS3, Xbox360) as well as full compatibility with all digital cameras, video and storage devices.

Consumers can finally indulge in a new interactive way of browsing through web pages, photo albums, and video collections at a touch, flick, whisk, or a tap of a finger. Digital content can now be explored with the multi-touch functionality.

HP Slate 500 Review

Hewlett Packard has developed a tablet that makes life in the business world a little easier. No longer will you have to rush back to the office to polish up a report, or check inventory. This is a handheld PC designed for professionals who are on the move and need to stay productive in a secure, familiar Windows environment. This machine uses custom applications built for Windows. With its multi-touch display you can use your fingers to browse documents, spreadsheets, applications and a lot more. You can also check e-mail, browse the web, read and edit documents and presentations all while walking the halls, or transitioning between meetings. An HP Slate Digital Pen lets you use the tablet like a stylus and take notes out in the field, or on the go. It's portable enough to fit into a wide pocket, ideal for busy medical professionals.

Web conferencing with your peers is easy utilizing the VGA webcam. Use the 3MP camera to take still shots. The HP Slate 500 allows you to stream videos from the web and show product or training videos. There is no need to be restricted to a desk. You can connect accessories such as keyboard, mouse and printer with the built-in USB 2.0 port. This is absolutely a work horse. It is unmatched for its size and ingenuity. A docking station permits charging and connectivity to additional accessories. You also retain the option of connecting wirelessly to Bluetooth devices.

The potential uses for this device are too numerous to list. Professionals in the medical field, insurance industry, hospitality and engineers would find this tablet a worthwhile addition to their daily arsenal of tools. This Spartan machine utilizes Genuine Windows 7 Professional 32 and FreeDOS. It also has an Intel System Controller Hub (SCH) US15W. Memory consists of 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Its internal drive storage capacity is a Solid State Flash Module Up to: 64 GB. It also has an optical drive dedicated for an external USB 2.0 CD/DVD R/RW. The display features an 8.9" diagonal WSVGA wide-viewing angle touch screen with 1024 x 600 or 1024 x 768 resolution.

It also comes standard with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500 Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator. Pre-installed software includes an HP Slate Camera, EVERNOTE, HP Support Assistant, Adobe Reader, and Adobe PDF. Its wireless features include Integrated 802.11b/g/n + Bluetooth 3.0 + HS combo. Requirements to power this machine are a 30W AC adapter, and a 2-cell (30 WHr) polymer battery. Its dimensions are (w x d x h) 9.21 x 0.58 x 5.91 in (23.40 x 1.47 x 15.00 cm).

The functionality of the HP Slate 500 is top notch, applicable to business environment. One of the few drawbacks that I encountered is that memory is on the board and not customer accessible or upgradeable; and it operates at the maximum system supported speed of 533 MHz. Also the systems may require upgraded and/or separately purchased hardware to take full advantage of Windows 7 functionality. Also not all features are available in all editions of Windows 7. This tablet is targeted to the business and corporate world, and may not be available at retail outlets such as Best Buy. It is also a little pricey. Other than that, I think this is an outstanding PC.
